Joy got up for second! I thought she looked great for a new track and for being off so long from her surgery. A little more distance next time and she should be right back on track (no pun intended). She seemed to like the turf. Hope she came out of the race well. Can't wait to hear what Larry has to say!!!SmileAJ

Second, but a lot of firsts today — first time with the jockey, first time on turf, and first race back after a long layoff. Not firing, however, suggests to me that she may not be at her best on turf? I know Larry wants to keep Grace and Joyful separated, so we'll have to see what Larry does with JV next time. Whether turf or dirt, best of luck to this sweet girl!Smile

Naturally, I was disappointed like everyone else on here, but I don't see her race as a negative at all.  As Jan said, lots of firsts for Joy today, including the 1 hole.  In my opinion, there were two major factors to her not being able to get win; the 1 hole and getting stuck on the rail the entire race and then going 3 wide on the last turn.  I thought she handled the turf just fine and looked very comfortable on it. Joy also broke badly, bumping with the 2 horse that cost her at least 3 lengths and the chance to get off the rail.  Instant Style, the winner, is also 6 years old and has run really well on the turf in stakes races, so nothing to be ashamed of for Joy. I see nothing but good things for her from this race.  I honestly don't think that she is of Grace's caliber so keeping them apart should not be a problem for Larry, but there are not too many horses, either male or female, that I think are of Grace's caliber.

I Agree Tb (even though I didn't see the race)

Victoria is there a link you can post on the site or a video of the race for us who missed it?   K.

I have a question about the race.  Someone over at TBC posted that they thought the winner should have been DQd since she caused contact in the stretch and forced Joyful and another horse to move out about one path.  Did anyone else see this?

I saw the race and what I saw was that Instant Style got real close to the horse inside Joy but did not touch her.  If contact had been made, I guarantee you that Robby Albarado would have registered an objection as I believe the other jock would have as well and no objection or claim of foul was made.  It just looks like things tightened up some.  You can watch a pan view replay of this race and others at http://www.bloodhorse. com or click this link,

http://www.bloodhorse.com/hors…..ce-replays and enter the necessary information for the race that you want to view.  Not all race replays are available but this one is.  Just select from the calendar the begin and end date of 1/11/12 and choose Fair Grounds for the track then race 8 and there you go, you can view the replay.

Thank you so much for your answer!  I wondered why, if there were reason for objection, no one spoke out.  I really appreciate the links, too.

According to Larry, Joyful had a very nice 5 furlong work on Monday in preparation for the Tiffany Lass!

Joyful had her final work before the Tiffany Lass and it was a good one! ;-) She went 5f in 1:00 flat! This was the bullet work of today at the Fair Grounds for 5 furlongs!  ( 1/48 ) Next closest was .60 seconds behind her. This sweet girl sounds ready for her return to dirt this weekend! Best of luck to her and to FHF!

Best of luck to our sweet Joyful Victory today in the Tiffany Lass at the Fair Grounds! May it be a sweet victory for Joyful and FHF! With a victory, Joyful would probably be heading to the Apple Blossom!

Joyful is listed as the 2/1 favorite, starting from post #2 out of 7 with Robby Albarado aboard. All fillies are at equal weights, carrying 116 lbs. and going 1  1/16th miles. Race 9 — 5:25pm ET.

Hopefully, Joyful will be allowed to showcase her talents in this race, using her high cruising speed and relaxing just off the pace ready to pounce and take over the lead at the 3/8th pole! Down the stretch, let them try and catch her! ;-)

Our sweet lady showed some real fight today, battling back down the lane to defeat the hard-charging Jaunita! Ridden the way I thought she would be ( nice ride! ), probably would have been even easier on her with an outside post that would not have kept her hemmed in? So good to see Joyful back, looking good and with such fight!!! Congratulations to FHF!!! This bodes well for Joyful's campaign and future! ;-)

Here is Joyful's gritty win today — enjoy! Smile

Correction from previous comment above — It was Ravi's Song that JV put away at the finish. She had already passed Juanita when Ravi's Song came charging on Joyful's outside to create the exciting finish!

Sure there will be some extra carrots for Joyful tonight! Now, Grace, don't you get jealous — your turn will come! ;-)

K., sorry you can't see it on TV! Maybe go to Fair Grounds site for Grace's race or HRTV.com to see it? For Joyful, go to TVG.com or Oaklawn's website? I know after the races, given some time, Bloodhorse will have video on both races. Hope that helps! :-)
